In this tutorial, the design procedure of grout layer below the base plate connections is introduced. At first, some information about grout and its applications are explained and then with expressing the problem, it's solution will be introduced.
What is Grout Pad?
ACI 351.1R-99 defined the grout as a mixture of cementitious materials and water, with or without aggregate, proportioned to produce a pourable consistency without segregation of the constituents; also a mixture of other constituents (such as polymers) with a similar consistency.
How Does It Work?
Open ColumnBase software and enter the inputs. (Download the latest version via https://pceesoft.com/download)
Then click on Footing Tab, and click on “Use Build-up Grout Between Plate and Footing” (Figure 2). Select grout material and enter grout thickness.

In this tutorial, we wanted to express an engineering challenge in the design of grout pads below base plate connections and introduce a solution for overcoming it.
